One of the most picturesque areas on the Peninsula is the long valley within the Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. These photos are from an afternoon hike after the first big winter storm last week. There were fresh tracks and a lot of wildlife.
Some of the wildlife spotted included a coyote, hawks, crows, newts, and a lot of deer. I think one of the reasons for the wildlife activity was due to the absence of people. In almost three hours of hiking I only crossed paths with one other hiker, whereas I saw around 12 deer.
After the rain and cold weather, the haze from fireplaces and burn piles stayed around in the valleys and made for some beautiful scenic shots. Looking down the valley each ridge fades a little more than the one before it.
